Solar energy is utilised in the Sunovation Eco Technics car port to charge an electric vehicle for a traveling distance of about 40km – a limited range, but possibly enough for a town car in light use. German company Mage Sunovation is developing the car port so that it can be used by private owners and – being modular – by corporate and public organizations. Light weight plastic materials from Bayer and Evonik are needed for the transparent solar modules in the car port’s roof. The picture shows one of the car ports specially installed at Evonik’s Darmstadt site, in front of the company’s new lightweight design studio.
