Thanks to the never-ending sun and wind (in our lifetime!), we get better and better products that can contribute to our increasing need of electrical power. The hybrid of wind-solar energy is a superb combination in many environments. Why only use the sun or the wind, when you can use both! The Swedish company Innoventum had invented The Giraffe and The PowerTower, a basic construction that can be used nearly everywhere – and that is the purpose!
Think of the landscape that’s hot and dry, sunny and windy, and also underdeveloped of its infrastructure. Here The Giraffe and The PowerTower can be an excellent power provider for a low cost. It’s also fast to use in areas where the power supply had broken down fx. at tsunami’s or other extreme weather conditions.
Remember the super typhoon ‘Haiyan’ that hit the Philippines on November 8th 2013. It is the worst storm to ever have made landfall in modern history and turned the Philippines from a paradise into a disaster area.
Restoring electricity in the affected area is vital for its recovery. After every disaster, it usually takes months to put electric utilities in order so as to bring the grid back to life. During all those months, the majority of the people in the Philippines are left without access to the electricity, that’s so vital for the affected territory when it provides:
- Refrigeration: preservation of medicines, vaccines, food;
- Water: pumping and making the water drinkable is impossible without electricity;
- Telecom, using phone or internet: communication with families, rescue teams, Red Cross;
- Light: the day should not be over when the sun goes down
Go in to the Crowd funding site to read more about this project and to make a contribution. The goal with the campaign is to make donations REAL and DIRECT: For every 300.000 SEK (46.000 USD) donated, one new PowerTower will be installed – without any losses in bribes.
