This is a simple and also a very powerful demonstration of how to do! The Vancouver based Canadian designer Andrew Zo made this perfect “box” for the unique purpose of engagement. The idea was to have a wallet like box with a discreet and design driven outcome.

As an european I’m a bit sceptic about the “American engagement process”, nevertheless this is not the issue, and the box perfect demonstrates the fact: innovative thinking and design driven product development wins. No more, no less.
Or as Andrew Zo says by himself (or his PR group says):
Clifton is a unique engagement ring case that can be easily slipped into the pocket or the wallet. The discreet design allows the case to be easily hidden without showing much profile. At approximately 1cm thick, Clifton presents the ring with a delightful flower blooming effect when opened, enchanting the moment. The concept design was originally created in 2011, titled “Packed Engagement Ring”, and was then launched under the name “Clifton” in 2014. – See more here.
